§ Mr. John PattenMy right hon. Friend announced on 20 November that the gross provision for the Housing Corporation in 1986–87 was £685 million. This figure comprises an allocation of £585 million, plus an estimated £100 million of capital receipts. Of the gross provision of £685 million, £521 million will be needed to meet existing commitments on fair rent and hostel projects, and £82 million to meet commitments on low cost home ownership projects.
The balance of the provision will be used largely to finance new projects for rent, and low cost home ownership, including provision of £26 million for the scheme for tenants of charitable housing associations. At my right hon. Friend's request, resources for new fair rent and shared housing projects are being concentrated particularly on meeting special housing needs in inner city areas. The detailed breakdown of the programme is as follows:
