HC Deb 11 December 1985 vol 88 c680W
Mr. Evennett

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services whether he has any plans to introduce legislation to establish a statutory system of registration for social workers.

Mr. Whitney

There are no such plans. The views in the report of the working party on the role and tasks of social workers under the chairmanship of Mr. Peter Barclay, in the responses to that report and in further consultations carried out by the Department do not persuade me that at present the potential benefits of the statutory registration of social workers outweigh the possible disadvantages.
