Mr. Parris

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will give details of the expenditure on derelict land reclamation undertaken with the aid of grant, by West Derbyshire district council from 1980–81 to 1984–85 and on its allocation for 1985–86.

Sir George Young

Grant aided derelict land reclamation activity by West Derbyshire district council increased during the period 1980–81 to 1984–85. Reclamation expenditure by the council was £293,000 over this period. In 1985–86, about 123,000 will be spent. the major current reclamation scheme is at Butts road, Darley Dale, where land is being reclaimed for private housing. It is expected that the value of private investment on this site will be six times the expenditure on reclamation.
