HC Deb 10 December 1985 vol 88 c617W
Mr. Meadowcroft

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will list all current or proposed short-term funding initiatives by his Department which include an element of direct services to clients by voluntary organisations which are also within the competence of local social service authorities.

Mr. Whitney

We believe that local authority social service departments are in general best placed to decide on the most effective means of meeting the priority needs in their areas, and that this will often include partnerships with the voluntary sector. The Department's funding for local voluntary sector activity is designed either to explore or demonstrate new or experimental types of services. The short term initiatives are:

  • Intermediate treatment fund
  • Intermediate treatment initiative
  • Under 5s initiative
  • Helping the Community to Care
  • Drugs misuse initiative
  • Tadworth Court
