HL Deb 02 December 1985 vol 468 cc1179-80WA
Lord Kennet

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What has been the form of British participation in, and contribution to, the UN Maritime University in Sweden.

The Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State, Department of Transport (The Earl of Caithness)

The Department of Transport provides two Members of the board of governors and nominates two officials to undertake the duties of visiting professors, nominally one week each. In addition, the department has also agreed to accept 12 students for six weeks in the year to assist them in obtaining on-the-job work experience without charge. I understand that the Minister for Overseas Development has agreed that his department's funds could be used for fellowships at the university if this is the wish of the country concerned and in the exceptional circumstances of there being no appropriate training available at a British institution.
