HC Deb 02 December 1985 vol 88 cc39-40W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales if he will arrange for a survey to be undertaken of all locations of refusal disposal in Wales in order to ascertain to what degree water from the refuse finds its way into the food cycle in the area, or potentially becomes a source of contamination of subterranean water supplies.

Mr. Mark Robinson

I am satisfied that such a survey is not necessary as under the Control of Pollution Act 1974 waste disposal authorities in consultation with water authorities are required to ensure that waste disposal sites do not cause pollution of water or danger to public health. Water authorities regularly monitor discharges from such sites and the quality of ground and surface water.
