HC Deb 02 December 1985 vol 88 c40W
Mr. Wigley

asked the Secretary of State for Wales (1) how he anticipates that the necessary funds will be found by health authorities in Wales to fund the recently announced pay increases for ambulance workers; and if he will make a statement;

(2) what he expects to be the total effect on public expenditure on the National Health Service in Wales arising from the recent proposals for a restructuring of ambulance workers' pay.

Mr. Mark Robinson

Health authorities are expected to meet all pay increases within the total sums available to them. There has as yet been no pay settlement covering all ambulance workers in 1985–86 but any increase would be contained within 4.7 per cent. on the pay bill. The trade union side of the ambulance council is consulting its members on a proposal for a salaried structure, the cost of which will depend upon the outcome of local agreements on productivity.
