HC Deb 02 December 1985 vol 88 c106W
25. Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what consultations he has had with the London Docklands Development Corporation concerning modifications, or extensions of, the docklands light railway.

Mr. David Mitchell

My Department is in regular touch with the Docklands Light Railway Joint Board, which comprises representatives of London Regional Transport and the London Docklands Development Corporation. One of the matters discussed recently has been the proposal to extend the railway to the Bank. My right hon. Friend announced on 27 November that London Regional Transport had reached an understanding with the Canary Wharf consortium on underwriting finance for this extension and that they had, with his consent, introduced a Bill to provide for the works. I welcome this development.

It has been decided, in the absence of proposals for private funding, that a Bill to provide for an eastern extension to the railway should not be deposited in this Session.
