HC Deb 02 December 1985 vol 88 cc105-6W
24. Mr. Dormand

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what further steps he intends to take to seek to increase the safety of cyclists.

Mr. Ridley

We shall decide in the light of our consultation on a wide range of issues that emerged from our conference "Ways to Safer Cycling" held earlier this year. Copies of our consultation letter and report of the conference have been placed in the Library.

32. Mr. Haynes

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what progress is being made concerning better road facilities for cyclists.

Mr. Ridley

Most local highway authorities are now taking cyclists' needs into account in their proposals for the construction of new highways and improvements, or have proposals for specific cycle facilities.

42. Mr. Waller

asked the Secretary of State for Transport what recent representations he has received from cycling organisations concerning road safety.

Mr. Ridley

Cycling organisations make representations to us on a variety of road safety matters and we are currently consulting them and other bodies on the wide-ranging issues arising from our "Ways to Safer Cycling" conference earlier this year.
