§ Mr. Beithasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps Her Majesty's Government are taking to seek to implement paragraph 259 of the conclusions of the United Nations Nairobi conference on forward looking strategies for the advancement of women, relating to the position of women under apartheid.
§ Mr. RifkindThe United Kingdom was pleased to join consensus on the document "Forward-Looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women", but we reserved our position on several paragraphs, including paragraph 259. Our reservations were placed on record in the report of the world conference, copies of which are in the Library of the House (A/CONF. 116/28).
§ Mr. Tony Banksasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what steps he is taking to implement paragraph 264 of the conclusions of the United Nations Nairobi conference on forward looking strategies for the advancement of women, relating to the participation of women in United Nations International Year of Peace 1986.
§ Mr. EggarDuring 1986 Government information on defence and disarmament questions will draw attention to the international year of peace. Individuals must decide how best they can contribute to the aims of the year; we hope they will do so by supporting policies which genuinely further the cause of peace.
§ Mr. Meadowcroftasked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs if he will now publish the document, "The Nairobi Forward Looking Strategies for the Advancement of Women".
§ Mr. EggarI refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave the hon. Member for Walthamstow (Mr. Deakins) on 29 November at column707. The report of the world conference of the United Nations decade for women will also be available from booksellers as a United Nations sales publication.
