HL Deb 03 April 1985 vol 462 cc336-7WA
Lord Hylton

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Whether voluntary bodies, based in or operating in Northern Ireland, are eligible to receive help from funds administered by the Voluntary Services Unit and if not why not; and if so, how such moneys have been used in Northern Ireland in recent years.

Lord Glenarthur

Funds administered by the Voluntary Services Unit are provided in Class IX, Vote 7 of the Supply Estimates, which authorises expenditure in England and Wales only. An organisation based in England and Wales which is operating partly in Northern Ireland is eligible for consideration in the normal way, and the Community Projects Foundation (which receives a grant from the VSU) contributed towards the cost of a small community work consultancy at the Divis Flats, Belfast, which was undertaken in 1983 at the request of the local social services department.
