HL Deb 03 April 1985 vol 462 c338WA
Lord Winstanley

asked Her Majesty's Government:

When and by what means they will amend National Health Service General Practitioners' terms of service to make these compatible with the requirements of the limited list prescribing system which comes into force on 1st April.

Baroness Trumpington

The National Health Service (General Medical and Pharmaceutical Services) Amendment Regulations 1985, which were laid on 1st March, made the necessary changes to general medical practitioners' terms of service. These regulations provide that general medical practitioners may not prescribe and community pharmacists may not dispense, at NHS expense, the drugs and other products listed in Schedule 3A. They also provide that dispensing doctors may not dispense any of these products at NHS expense, save that they may supply and charge for them to patients on their dispensing lists against a non-NHS prescription.
