§ Mr. Steenasked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food how much agricultural land has been lost to alternative development since 1970.
§ Mrs. FennerI regret that no precise figures are available. However, it is estimated that, from 1970 to 1984, the total net loss of agricultural land in England and Wales was some 300,000 hectares. About half of this net loss was recorded as having been to alternative development.
