HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 cc967-8W
Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what discussions have recently taken place between his Department and the European Commission regarding the pilot study commissioned by his Department covering industrial south Wales as part of an initiative towards integrated operations and submitted to the Commission in 1980; and what was their outcome.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

There have been no recent discussions specifically about the provisional draft document on industrial south Wales. Discussion has concentrated on a national basis on the general concept of integrated operations taken forward by member states and the Commission in the context of the recently concluded review of the European regional development fund.

Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many preparatory studies prior to integrated operations in Wales have been or are being conducted; and if he will provide a list of such studies, their current progress and their fields of study.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

I refer the hon. Gentleman to the reply which I gave him on 30 October 1984, at column 888.

Mr. Ron Davies

asked the Secretary of State for Wales what discussions have recently taken place between his Department and the Economic and Social Committee of the European Commission.

Mr. Nicholas Edwards

Officials of the Welsh Office and the Department of Trade and Industry have met representatives of a study group set up by the regional section of the Economic and Social Committee of the European Communities which is undertaking a study of the situation in Clwyd in relation to the current discussion on the general concept of integrated operation.
