HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 c1118W
Mr. Bruce

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what representations he has received against the proposals to close the Gordon barracks, Bridge of Don, Aberdeen; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Lee

I have received a number of letters from local MPs, local authorities and private individuals about the closure of Gordon barracks.

The decision to remove military junior training from Bridge of Don was one part of an overall concentration of junior training in the Army to achieve a capital saving of over £8 million. In addition, there will be civilian manpower savings of at least 100 posts and the Army will be able to redeploy significant numbers of military personnel from training to more operational functions.
