HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 c1069W
Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when the Gaelic Athletic Association first made a claim for compensation for damage to its property in Crossmaglen; and when he expects the claim to be settled.

Mr. Scott

The trustees of the Crossmaglen Gaelic Athletic football club applied to the court on 12 December 1978 for an arbitration in the matter of compensation for physical damage to and for other losses in connection with the club's playing pitch. Interim payments of compensation were made on 16 May 1979 and 5 August 1980.

Court proceedings on the final settlement are pending, and I cannot therefore say when the claim is likely finally to be settled.

Mr. Parry

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland when he expects to meet representatives of the Gaelic Athletic Association to discuss damage to its property at Crossmaglen.

Mr. Scott

I met representatives of the Gaelic Athletic Association on 26 july of this year to discuss the problems of the Crossmaglen club. But since their claims for damages are now to be the subject of court proceedings, it would not be appropriate for me to have a further meeting to discuss these claims. My officials are, however, ready to meet GAA representatives to discuss practical points which might be of assistance to the club.
