HL Deb 31 October 1984 vol 456 cc607-8WA
Lord Houghton of Sowerby

asked Her Majesty's Government:

What they are doing with the Report of the Farm Animals Welfare Council and what is their intended timetable for consultation and legislation on its recommendations.

Lord Belstead

The Farm Animal Welfare Council submitted their report on the welfare of red meat animals at the time of slaughter to Agriculture Ministers in June. We immediately asked interested organisations for their comments. In the light of the comments we received the Government will prepare proposals for action on the report, which we will issue for further comment. The timing of any legislation resulting from these proposals will depend to a large extent on the parliamentary timetable.
