HC Deb 31 October 1984 vol 65 c1057W
Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland whether, in connection with the sale of some of the Craiglockhart buildings and campus, he will take fully into consideration the educational needs and requirements of the 900 students now studying at the Craiglockhart campus, as part of Napier college, and of the 4,800 students comprising the total roll of Napier college; whether he will make it his policy to ensure that the educational requirements of Napier college will be given priority over private property developments; and whether the Scottish Education Department will endeavour to take all reasonable measures to purchase the site.

Mr. Allan Stewart

My right hon. Friend is currently considering how the future accommodation needs of Napier college can best be met. In the light of that consideration, and having regard to Government policy on the disposal of public assets, he will decide whether a bid should be made to acquire any part of the Craiglockhart property for the use of Napier college.
