asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will include within the core curriculum for schools recommendations on sex education.

Mr. Dunn

As part of my right hon. Friend's initiative to establish nationally agreed objectives for the school curriculum, the Department issued in September a discussion paper, "The Organisation and Content of the 5–16 Curriculum". A copy is available in the Library. This paper seeks comments inter alia on the view that health education, including sex education, is an essential ingredient of a broad and relevant curriculum.
