HC Deb 30 October 1984 vol 65 c924W
Mr. Hayes

asked the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State answering in respect of the Arts how much the Office of Arts and Libraries spent in 1983–84 on the purchase of newspapers, periodicals, books and other published reading material.

Mr. Waldegrave

Before the Office of Arts and Libraries became a freestanding Department in 1983, expenditure on its behalf on newspapers, periodicals, books and other published reading material was borne by the Department of Education and Science. From October 1983 it was borne by the Cabinet Office. This expenditure is not separately identifiable in either case for the financial year 1983–84, but will be separately identifiable from 1984–85 onwards.
