HC Deb 30 October 1984 vol 65 c890W
Mr. Cohen

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department why three girl gymnasts from North Korea, their manager, pianist and coach, who were all invited to attend an international gymnasts' event at Wembley, were deported on 9 October; and if he will list the representations made to him to stop the immediate deportation.

Mr. Waddington

The group of North Koreans were refused leave to enter because they arrived without the requisite visas, applications for which had been refused on 5 October. No representations were received before their removal other than from the secretary of BAGA who, according to the group's interpreter, had advised them to travel despite the absence of visas.
