asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland how many complaints about strip searches have been received by the board of visitors at Armagh prison and notified to him.

During the period 1 November 1982 to 30 September 1984, a total of 16 separate complaints relating to strip-searching were discussed at monthly meetings of

No advisers have been appointed in connection with the Government's privatisation programme. Mr. E. Bickham was appointed as special adviser to the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland 'with effect from 26 September 1984.

Information in respect of the appointment of management consultants from outside the Civil Service by the Northern Ireland Office and the Northern Ireland Departments is as follows:

the board of visitors for HM prison, Armagh. Eight of these complaints were made by prisoners. The minutes of these meetings are sent to the prison department so that matters raised in relation to individual prisoners are general subjects may be followed up.

Separate records are not kept of any occasions when members of the board may have received complaints which were not raised during their monthly meetings.
