HL Deb 29 October 1984 vol 456 c430WA
The Earl of Dundonald

asked Her Majesty's Government:

Which authority or Department is responsible for the upkeep of the tombstones of those buried in Westminster Abbey, particularly those suffering from the wear and tear of the feet of the many visitors.

The Earl of Avon

The upkeep of tombstones in Westminster Abbey is, in the first instance, a matter for the families where theyare still living. Thereafter it is a matter for the Dean and Chapter of Westminster Abbey. I have drawn their attention to my noble friend's Question.
