Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland (1) when the Housing Defects Act is likely to be implemented;

(2) when the Housing Defects Act and its provisions are due to come into effect.

Mr. Ancram

It is intended that the provisions of the Act, apart from section 28, should come into effect in Scotland on 1 December 1984.

Lord James Douglas-Hamilton

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland who will undertake regular safety checks to defective houses following the implementation of the Housing Defects Act.

Mr. Ancram

It is for the owners of defective housing in the public and the private sectors to make their own arrangements for any necessary periodic inspections.
