HC Deb 29 October 1984 vol 65 c776W
Mr. Spencer

asked the Attorney-General what action the Lord Chancellor intends to take to remedy the delay in hearing civil appeals in the Court of Appeal referred to in the annual review of the Master of the Rolls dated 4 October 1984.

The Attorney-General

The Lord Chancellor welcomes the measures that have already been taken to reduce waiting times and urges all concerned to have full regard to the views expressed by the Master of the Rolls about the value of accurate estimates of the likely duration of cases and of ensuring that skeleton arguments are crisp and to the point. He is seeking urgently to increase the accommodation available and plans are in hand to provide additional court rooms at the Royal Courts of Justice as soon as possible.

The Lord Chancellor will, in addition, consider the suggestions made by the Master of the Rolls for changes in the arrangements relating to appeals.
