Mr. Pavitt

asked the Secretary of State for Defence what has been the cost of security and maintenance of the property at 35 Great Smith street, London SW1 since it became empty in October 1983; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Butler:

The property at 35 Great Smith street, London, SW1 was not in fact vacated until December 1983. The cost of security and maintenance since that date has been approximately £73,000.
