HC Deb 25 October 1984 vol 65 cc701-2W
Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will take steps to require the London Docklands Development Corporation to make some of the land included within the compulsory purchase orders for Newham available to the London Borough of Newham for building for housing for rent.

Sir George Young

No. However, it is the corporation's policy to make land available to local authorities, should they wish to purchase it for building for housing for rent, provided the local authority is able to match the corporation's planned development timescale for the site concerned. Such an offer has already been made to the London borough of Newham.

Mr. Spearing

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what consultations took place with the London borough of Newham and the Greater London council prior to the announcement of the London Docklands Development Corporation's intention to issue compulsory purchase orders for land in the docklands area of the London borough of Newham.

Sir George Young

I refer the hon. Member to the reply I gave to him on 22 October 1984 at column485.
