§ Mr. Wareingasked the Secretary of State for the Environment what representations he has received about the home improvement grants programme; and if he will make a statement.
§ Sir George YoungHome improvement grant programmes are run by individual local authorities, which decide how much to allocate for this purpose from within the total capital resources available to them. My Department has received representations from a variety of sources covering a range of issues, including the consequences of the call for voluntary restraint on capital expenditure in July and the future level of resources. No decisions have yet been taken about the level of resources for future years.
