Mr. Younger

Since 1975 the SDA has completed 27 environmental improvement projects valued at £1.77 million in the Greenock and Port Glasgow area. The agency's expenditure plans for 1985–86 include provision for a further seven projects in the area, valued at £630,000.

Dr. Godman

asked the Secretary of State for Scotland what is the approximate total number of jobs created in the past five years by Scottish Development Agency investments in companies in Greenock and Port Glasgow.

Mr. Younger

The agency estimates that some 600 jobs are associated with the investments which it has made since 1975 in the Greenock and Port Glasgow area. This excludes investments by the agency's small business division, for which details are being obtained. My hon. Friend will reply to the hon. Member as soon as possible.
