HC Deb 25 October 1984 vol 65 c713W
Mr. Hordern

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment how much land, suitable for development, but for which there are no immediate plans for development, is held by local authorities, and other public sector bodies.

Mr. Waldegrave

The registers of unused public land on sites of an acre or more include some 32,000 acres of local authority land and 16,000 acres of land owned by other public bodies which have been assessed as having potential for development. Other land held by public bodies may also be suitable for development but no information is available centrally.

The information on the land registers for individual sites indicates plans for development where there are such plans, but the total acreage for which development is not planned cannot readily be ascertained.
