§ Sir George YoungBased on returns from the Stockton-on-Tees borough council, at April 1984 the average weekly rent per council dwelling was £13.90. The council made a rate fund contribution to its housing revenue account of £1,571 in 1983–84 and has estimated that there will be no rate fund contribution, nor will there be a HRA surplus, in 1984–85. As to main housing subsidy—housing benefit involves no income to the council—the authority had no entitlement in 1983–84 or 1984–85.

§ Sir George YoungBased on the last returns submitted by the Liverpool city council, at April 1984 the average weekly rent per council dwelling was estimated at £17.09. The council made a rate fund contribution to its housing revenue account of £8 million 1983–84 and has estimated a 1984–85 contribution of £5.6 million. As to main housing subsidy—housing benefit involves no income to the council—the authority has estimated its entitlement for 1983–84 at £1.7 million, and has claimed £5.2 million—subject to validation—in respect of 1984–85.
