Dr. Roger Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for Wales how many doctors will be appointed as (a) unit representatives and (b) general managers in each of the health authorities in Wales; what will be the remuneration to individual doctors appointed; and what will be the total annual cost to each health authority.

My right hon. Friend expects each of the 40 health management units in Wales to have a unit medical representative. It is not possible to say at this stage how many clinicians in Wales will be appointed to act as general managers.

Health authorities have been asked to submit by 30 November 1984 proposals for implementing the general management function at district level in accordance with

* Full-time pupils in special schools at September 1982; full-time and part-time pupils in other primary and secondary schools at January 1983:
Mid Glamorgan has the only special school in Wales which provides specifically for blind and partially sighted children. Such children from other LEA areas in Wales who need to attend a special school attend this school or schools in England.
