HC Deb 23 October 1984 vol 65 c562W
Mr. Thurnham

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if the Committee on Safety of Medicines has had a request to approve the distribution of the medicine Preglandin in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

Information about applications for licences to market medicinal products in the United Kingdom is confidential as it could be of commercial value. I should however explain that Preglandin is the brand name in a number of countries of evening primrose oil. This preparation is sold in the United Kingdom as a dietary supplement. As it is not a medicinal product it does not need to be licensed under the Medicines Act 1968.
