HC Deb 23 October 1984 vol 65 c533W
Mr. Viggers

asked the Secretary of State for Transport if he will list the motorway construction which has taken place in Hampshire since 1979; and what work currently in hand is expected to be open for public use in the next five years.

Mrs. Chalker

The information requested is as follows:

  • M27 Stoneham-Hedge End—opened December 1983
  • M27 Chilworth-Stoneham—opened July 1984
  • M3 Popham-Bar End—under construction, due to open in two stages in summer and autumn 1985

The M27 from Cadnam to Portsbridge is now fully open. Subject to the timely completion of the necessary statutory procedures and availability of resources for the schemes not yet under construction, the final sections of the M3 motorway between Bar End and Bassett should be open to traffic within the next five years.
