HC Deb 22 October 1984 vol 65 c461W
Sir John Biggs-Davison

asked the Secretary of State for Northern Ireland why Northern Ireland teachers' redundancy payments do not take account of service in Great Britain, in what other respects their conditions of service differ from those of teachers on the mainland of the United Kingdom, and if he will make a statement

Mr. Scott

There are no reciprocal arrangements between Northern Ireland and Great Britain which permit service in both parts to be aggregated for redundancy payment purposes.

Conditions of service for teachers in Northern Ireland are the subject of separate collective bargaining arrangements and whilst they follow closely those of teachers in Great Britain they are not identical to conditions of service of local authorities in Great Britain which themselves can vary from one authority to another.
