HC Deb 22 October 1984 vol 65 c491W
Mr. Woodcock

asked the Secretary of State for Energy if he will estimate the number of jobs which could be lost in the United Kingdom as a result of the proposed introduction of lead-free petrol; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Waldegrave

I have been asked to reply.

It is not possible to make an exact estimate because of the continuing demand for leaded petrol in the United Kingdom even after the introduction of unleaded petrol and because of the difficulty of predicting future export markets. It is of course a matter for the companies concerned as to how they will deploy resources in future.
