HC Deb 30 November 1984 vol 68 cc623-4W
Mrs. Renée Short

asked the Secretary of State for Social Services what change there has been in the rate of perinatal deaths in England in social class IV since 1981; and if he will make a statement.

(2) if he will list the private contracts entered into by health authorities since the last named in his answer of 30 October, Official Report, column 967, giving in each case the category of ancillary service, the health authority, the hospital and the contractor involved.

Mr. Kenneth Clarke

We have not been collecting centrally the results of all competitive tenders, but we are aware of the following cases in addition to those listed in my reply on 30 October at c.967.

Mr. John Patten

The information is given in the table:

England: perinatal mortality: Rate per 1,000 total births
Social Class (Legitimate births only)* IV
1981 13.1
1983† 12.2
Change -0.9
* Live births by social class are estimated from a 10 per cent. sample.
Provisional.
