HC Deb 29 November 1984 vol 68 c561W
Mr. Heddle

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he intends to increase the grant limits for improvement for sale schemes by housing associations.

Mr. Gow

My right hon. Friend laid the Housing Association Grant (Disposal of Dwellings) Order 1984, under section 130 of the Housing Act 1980, today. This increases the amount of grant which may be paid to a registered housing association under section 29 of the Housing Act 1974 where the association carries out work of repair, improvement or conversion prior to sale to £12,500 in Greater London and Glasgow and to £9,500 elsewhere. The new limits follow the findings of a review of the improvement for sale scheme carried out in conjunction with the Housing Corporation. They will enable schemes to proceed in the worst stress areas, and it is in these areas that housing associations' activities should be concentrated.
