Dame Judith Hart

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how the United Kingdom representative voted on 26 November on the proposal for a $125 million loan to Chile from the Inter-American Development Bank.

Mr. Raison

The project was considered by the executive board of the Inter-American Development Bank on 29 November. The Inter-American Development Bank executive director who represents Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Federal Republic of Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom was mandated to vote in favour.

Dame Judith Hart

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs how the United Kingdom representative voted on 21 November on the proposals for a $35.7 million loan to Chile from the Inter-American Development Bank.

Mr. Raison

The Inter-American Development Bank executive director who represents Belgium, Denmark, Finland, the Federal Republic of Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden and the United Kingdom, voted in favour.

asked the Secretary of State for Foreign and Commonwealth Affairs what outstanding proposals for loans or projects for Chile will be considered before the end of 1984 by the Inter-American Development Bank, the World Bank, or the International Development Association.

Mr. Raison

The only project proposals which are likely to be considered before the end of 1984 are as follows:

  1. 1. Inter-American Development Bank
    • Industrial recovery programme: US$130 million; Hydrocarbon exploration, adaptation of refineries and development of gas in Magallunes: US$48 million;
  2. 2. The World Bank (IBRD)
    • Agricultural services and credit: US$56 million; Public sector housing: US$80 million;
  3. 3. International Development Assocition
    • None.
