HC Deb 29 November 1984 vol 68 c565W
Mr. Wainwright

asked the Secretary of State for Transport whether he is satisfied that current regulations regarding the labelling and transportation of chemicals by road transport are adequate to ensure the safety of those involved in both the collection and delivery process and members of the general public; and if he will make a statement.

Mrs. Chalker

The transport of dangerous chemicals in road tankers is covered by the Dangerous Substances (Conveyance by Road in Road Tankers and Tank Containers) Regulations 1981. I consider that these provisions are adequate, but. I am always prepared to consider proposals to improve them.

The Health and Safety Commission is in the final stages of consultation on proposals to extend control to all other methods of carrying dangerous substances by road. I hope to make new regulations next year.
