HC Deb 29 November 1984 vol 68 c587W
Mr. Wareing

asked the Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food what plans he has to permit the special sale of butter from surplus stocks, available in the United Kingdom, in the new year; and if he will make a statement.

Mr. Jopling

The Community has made provision for the sale of 39,200 tonnes of butter from United Kingdom intervention stocks for direct consumption. This butter is being made available to the trade during the period 16 November to 31 January. The implementation of this scheme was announced in the reply to my hon. Friend the Member for Dumfries (Sir H. Monro) on 13 November 1984, at column166, and the detailed provisions for application in the United Kingdom are contained in the Butter (EEC Special Sale) Regulations which were laid before Parliament on the same day.
