§ Mr. Andrew F. Bennettasked the Secretary of State for Employment what is the total projected cost of the technical and vocational education initiative by the central Government and local authorities.
§ Mr. Peter MorrisonThe cost of mounting the first 62 projects under the technical and vocational education initiative will be approximately £150 million over seven financial years to 1989–90.
In addition the Government have recently announced a further extension of the initiative to enable those authorities not yet included to mount projects if they wish to do so. Each project will be within a ceiling of £2 million over five academic years beginning in 1985 or 1986.
498WOver the five-year existence of each project, central Government, through the Manpower Services Commission will meet, within the above financial limits, the additional costs incurred by local authorities as a result of their participation in the initiative.
