asked the Secretary of State for Social Services if he will estimate the cost to the national insurance fund of abolishing the employers' contribution for young employees up to the age of 20 years.

The estimated cost to the national insurance fund of abolishing the employers' contribution for young people up to the age of 20 years is £550 million. The estimate is based on 1984–85 contribution rates and 1981–82 numbers and characteristics of contributors under 20 years of age, which are the latest available.
