HC Deb 27 November 1984 vol 68 c427W
Mr. Evennett

asked the Secretary of State for Education and Science if he will make a statement on the progress of the new blood recruitment initiative in higher education.

Mr. Brooke

Under the three-year scheme announced by my right hon. Friend in December 1982, a total of 592 posts have been allocated to the universities for the academic years 1983–84 and 1984–85, of which 488 are in the natural sciences. The allocation of posts for 1985–86 will be announced by the University Grants Committee in due course. My right hon. Friend is considering the advice of the UGC that some kind of new blood scheme will continue to be necessary after 1985–86.
