§ Sir George YoungThe successor bodies will in general determine how many of the GLC's staff they need after its abolition, but the majority of staff are expected to obtain posts in the new structure. The Government's estimate is that savings of about 3,500 posts, or £50 million annually, after taking account of staff needed outside local government, will result from rationalisation of local government in London following the GLC's proposed abolition.
