HC Deb 23 November 1984 vol 68 c332W
Mr. Ward

asked the Secretary of State for Trade and Industry what discussions have taken place with the United States Government about the application of United States export controls to persons in the United Kingdom.

Mr. Channon

The United Kingdom and United States Governments have discussed over recent months a number of issues relating to the application of United States export controls to United Kingdom persons. The purpose of the discussion has been to find ways of minimising problems which arise in this area.

Arrangements have now been made for the two Governments to consult if it appears that problems may arise in relation to the application of export controls administered by the United States Department of Commerce to companies or individuals in the United Kingdom, or if the United Kingdom Government envisage using the Protection of Trading interests Act in relation to the application of these controls.
