HC Deb 23 November 1984 vol 68 cc311-2W
Mr. Amess

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment if he will make a statement on his visit to Basildon on 13 October.

Mr. Patrick Jenkin

I made a political visit to Basildon on 13 October, where I spoke at a Basildon Conservative Association function. I had hoped also to meet, at their request, the rural dean of Basildon and other community leaders before the function but, because of an unfortunate misunderstanding between the organisers of the function and the rural dean about the venue, that meeting did not take place. I did meet the rural dean later in the evening and was glad to have a useful exchange of views.
