Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many firms have been (a) granted and (b) refused licences to strip asbestos since 1 August.

Fifty licences without conditions and 1,366 licences with conditions attached have been issued to individual licence holders. One licence application was refused, but the company has since re-applied and now holds a six-month conditional licence.

Mr. Skinner

asked the Secretary of State for Employment how many extra health and safety inspectors have been recruited specifically to deal with asbestos licensing since 1 August.
