HC Deb 22 November 1984 vol 68 c282W
Mr. Norman Atkinson

asked the Secretary of State for the Environment what is the estimated cost of the public presentation of the Rates Act 1984 and the estimated cost of the press campaign (a) in the London borough of Haringey, (b) all the rate-capped authorities and (c) nationally, in promoting the Government's campaign explaining the purpose of rate-capping.

Mr. Waldegrave

The estimated total cost of the advertisements and leaflets issued in respect of the rate limitation provisions in the Rates Act 1984 was £418,630. Of this, £148,630 was the cost of the preparation and delivery of the information leaflet to 5 million households in the areas covered by rate limited authorities. Advertisements in local newspapers in these areas and in certain national newspapers cost a further £270,000. It is not possible to break down the total cost between different geographical areas.
