Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constable of Hampshire police as to how many people were detained by police in a pit at Longmoor base firing range between 15 November and 20 November.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The chief constable tells me that no one was detained in a pit.

Mr. D. E. Thomas

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constable of Hampshire police as to how many police were involved in the operation to guard the cruise missile convoy which entered Longmoor base, Liss, Hampshire, between Thursday 15 November and Tuesday 20 November;

(2) if he will call for a report from the chief constable of Hampshire police as to why police involved in the operation to guard the cruise missile convoy based at Longmoor base have blocked A and B roads leading in and out of Greatham village.

Mr. Giles Shaw

The chief constable tells me that no police were used to guard the convoy to which the hon. Member refers. Some A and B roads were blocked for a few minutes in order to facilitate the passage of the convoy and for the safety of other road users.

Mr. McNamara

asked the Secretary of State for the Home Department if he will call for a report from the chief constable of Hampshire police as to how many persons have been arrested by the police at demonstrations outside and inside Longmoor camp and on which days; and how many were charged.

Mr. Giles Shaw

I shall reply to the hon. Member as soon as possible.
